Twin Peaks Inc. / history

It is through this network of companies that Mary Jo, my co-workers and I work to use media and the arts in a positive manner.

We welcome your feedback, your involvement... and your support.

Robert Masters

Twin Peaks, Inc.

At the age of nineteen, I arrived in America with a dream to be in the media business.

I initially worked for recording studios, sales companies and design facilities to learn as much as I could about the various aspects of the world of media system engineering, audio recording, video production and editing.

Invaluable experiences with the likes of Frank Zappa, Emmylou Harris, Levon Helm, Glyn Johns and Keith Olsen helped shape my philosophy about recording, mixing and more importantly, the business of media.

My years spent working at system design houses allowed me to learn the true potential of the equipment used in broadcast video - getting a solid knowledge of what was under the hood as well as what was on the surface.

When my partner and I opened Master Communication in 1983, our primary focus was professional video system design and post-production services.  In 1984, we became hooked on windsurfing, an event which had life altering ramifications.

By 1985, our love of the sport translated into a quest to create a windsurfing “video yearbook”, something which at the time had never been attempted.  It was also my first full-blown video production, funded by a seriously overworked Visa card!  “Boardsailing Year Volume One” was released in 1986 – and was the first in a series of “Robert Masters” windsurfing videos seen by millions of viewers around the world.  The exposure received opened the door for us to provide video services to a multitude of corporations in the world of alternative sports – Neil Pryde, Gaastra, Gotcha, Volcom, Killer Loop, Quiksilver, and Vans, to name a few.

Since incorporating under the name of Twin Peaks Inc., Master Communication continues to work with producers, directors and corporations – helping them turn their dreams into reality.  We travel the world to “capture the moment” - and use our post-production facilities (in San Pedro, California and Maui, Hawaii) to create everything from car commercials to documentaries about the global water crisis.

We also help independent editors who off-line edit with programs such as Final Cut Pro to finalize their projects by color correcting images, sweetening audio, adding motion graphics and outputting the program to video tape or DVD.  Streaming media, authoring, replication and media transfers are also areas of operation which keep us busy.

In 2004, with Psybercology founder Richard Sword, PhD, Twin Peaks formed a separate entity called lifehut.com.  It was created to help people cope with the negative mental effects which often accompany the experience of a traumatic situation.

Regardless of whether the stress is brought on as a result of a natural disaster, war, or by other means, our aim is to provide international aid organizations, mental health practitioners, corporations and the general public, with relaxing audio and video media for people in stressful situations.

All of the media on our lifehut.com site is made available at no cost to members of the general public who may wish to experience these educational programs.

2006 saw the realization of a new fun project.  I’ve always felt hamstrung by worldwide TV networks, who decide what gets shown where and when.   So our latest venture, stableroad.com is like a breath of fresh air to me – and to those who are interested in different styles of media on-demand.

Stableroad.com presents video clips, new movie shorts – and various filmmakers’ and photographers’ libraries from people like Greg Stump, Jonathan Weston and Rod Parmenter.  PhotoFiles, ProFiles and various forms of multi-media are also a part of the mix.  Finally, we can broadcast around the world, able to be seen by more people than by most conventional TV and print delivery methods.  Free at last!

Our San Pedro facility is also home to Twin Peaks other entity, Medéa Gallery.  This modern art center is run by my partner (and now wife), Mary Jo – and filled with intriguing art from Maui to The Republic of Georgia.

In addition to offering fine art to discerning collectors, the gallery is also used to promote causes such as our recent “Running Dry” water awareness event.
